Happy Medium Brings Art and Community to The Woolworth

Since 2025, The Woolworth and Happy Medium have welcomed New Yorkers for two creative evenings celebrating one of Lower Manhattan’s most iconic landmarks.

Hosted in July 2025 and then again the following April, the events invited participants of all skill levels to explore the building through hands-on artmaking, including sketching, painting, and more. Together, they offered a fresh perspective on The Woolworth, encouraging guests to spend time looking closely at the architecture and craftsmanship that have defined the landmark for more than a century.

The first event, held in the summer of 2025 on the building’s 26th floor, centered on The Woolworth’s neo-Gothic architecture and panoramic views of Lower Manhattan. After entering through the building’s historic lobby, participants worked with pencils, charcoal, and paintbrushes to capture both the landmark itself and the surrounding skyline, drawing inspiration from the city unfolding below.

Happy Medium returned in spring 2026 for a second evening focused on The Woolworth’s landmarked, mosaic-tiled lobby. Guests were provided with charcoal, soft pastels, colored pencils, and other dry materials to create small works inspired by the lobby’s ornate details, decorative finishes, and historic character. The self-guided session invited participants to explore the space carefully while recreating familiar architectural features through a creative lens.

Originally completed in 1913, The Woolworth has inspired generations of architects, artists, and New Yorkers. Through its ongoing partnership with Happy Medium, the building continues to welcome new audiences while creating opportunities to experience one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks in creative and surprising ways.
